University of California, Davis Sacramento Medical Center
Healing through Architecture

An outdated, seismically deficient facility became a major teaching medical center. Fani Hansen was in charge of evaluating, programming, master planning, and designing the medical center campus. In collaboration with Derek Parker, FAIA, while Senior Vice President of Anshen and Allen, and with David Vandel from the hospital administration, nurses, doctors, community representatives, and university officials in a continuous dialogue, Fani developed and evaluated 16 alternatives prior to creating an attractive facility that significantly uplifts the spirit of staff, patients, and visitors. This started a new era of investment not only for UCDMC but also for Stockton Boulevard.

Awards:

UCDSMC received national recognition when the project was chosen for the na-tional exhibit "That Exceptional One - Women in American Architecture 1888- 1988".
