While working on the revitalization of Parnassus Avenue in San Francisco, Fani Danadjieva Hansen realized that University of California Medical Center (UCSF) needed an anchor point. She proposed a structure to provide the setting for a hundred year old disassembled Founder's Clock. The University's planning authorities favorably received her vision of a clock tower structure.
As there was no budget for the implementation, DHA proposed the solicitation of funds from private donations. The sketches, illustrating the design, became one of the most powerful tool in fundraising. The Clock Tower was entirely funded through donations from UCSF alumni and friends of the University.
